Jessie’s Girl

Have you ever heard a song come on the radio, one that you’ve heard dozens of times before, that you bob along to, maybe sing along with, even hold a special fondness for, then one day you really listen to the lyrics and realize, “WTF?”

Jessie is a friend

Yeah I know he’s been a good friend of mine

This isn’t anywhere good.

Jessie’s got himself a girl and I wanna make her mine

No, no you don’t

And I’m looking at myself in the mirror all the time

Wondering what she don’t see in me

Probably that you’re her boyfriend’s friend. Duh.

It has nothing to do with who you are, or how you look.

Rick-Springfield

Not with that hair.

I’ve been funny, I’ve been cool with the lines

Ain’t that the way love’s supposed to be

No, Rick, not when you’re mackin’ on your friend’s girl. A really good friend, which you’ve already admitted. Why don’t you step off and look somewhere else?

And love is more than humor and pickup lines. No wonder you can’t find a woman like Jessie’s girl.
