Day 5: Reader’s Bill of Rights

Reader’s Bill of Rights

1. The right to not read

2. The right to skip pages

3. The right to not finish

4. The right to reread

5. The right to read anything

6. The right to escapism

7. The right to read anywhere

8. The right to browse

9. The right to read out loud

10. The right to not defend your tastes

— Daniel Pennac

I found this list over at BookPorn. (Dislcaimer- Before you head over there, it is what you think it might be. While there are mainly quotes, there are some photos of books, libraries, shops, people reading, there is nudity.) Anyways, I found this list, and as someone who reads a lot and knows a lot of readers, I thought it would be appropriate to re-post here. I’ve definitely done all of the above. Two and three the most. But hey, I have rights!

    THANK YOU!
    1. The right to not read (if I don’t want too)

    2. The right to skip pages (hell, I’ve skipped chapters)

    3. The right to not finish (For years I made myself finish books even though I found out that I hated what I was reading.) Not anymore

    5. The right to read anything(This Old House magazine!)

    6. The right to escapism (Opal Carew anyone?)

    7. The right to read anywhere

    10. The right to not defend your tastes
